When you confront rude parents in restaurants, be prepared for a major confrontation. I was eating in the back table of my favorite restaurant in the Silicon Valley enjoying a good glass of wine and reading book. This booth was tucked away in a corner near the window. Along came a 3 or 4-year-old child, running around, screaming and managing to climbing under my table. Looking out, I noticed a woman in her mid-thirties with an older woman, presumably her mother. She was watching the whole thing from across the room, and they seemed to be getting a kick out of the whole thing. Well, I’ll tell you, I was seeing red.

“Lady, you’re kid!”, I said to her in a serious tone.

She came over had started to give me the third-degree, “How dare you, this and that”. Responded to this crap, I didn’t mix words and said something like, “You’re letting you kid run wild in here!”, and told her to leave my table. The woman stomped off and went to the manager, Ramon, who knows me. They came back to my table and she noticed some wine. She pointed this out to Ramon and accused me of being belligerent. The older lady came up and demanded that if I wasn’t removed from the restaurant, they would never return. If that was her mother, this narcissistic conduct was beginning to make some sense.

“He comes in here all the time. He was just minding his own business”, Ramon told her, trying to calm her down.

“Well, I never…”, she said, mentioning something about her large income at a Valley company, as this was reason for us to be forced to endure her toddler’s unruly behavior. When she couldn’t get me thrown out, mother, daughter and child left, never to be seen back there again. Good riddance!

Later, Ramon apologized, but said he had to handle her delicately to keep his job, as he was trying to tell her to control her kid. “O course, I understood, but told him that I told him that I didn‘t have to.

Hopefully, future restaurant patrons they chooses to dine will be spared the grief we had to put up with.

Wow! Shot w/ a bolt gun and dragged by a chain after being tortured. How do these people sleep at night?! Lets hope these workers don't have kids that they are instilling this kind of insensitive behavior and mentality into. We don't need more heartless people in this world.

My whole family is vegetarian/vegan - It's wonderful! When we were omnivores - we took turns getting sick (constantly) - Thank goodness those days are over - Been cold/flu free for 5 years now.... Not to mention the energy I have since eliminating milk/dairy from my diet - they were poisioning me (and putting on lots of pounds too)..... Between the horrors at factory farms and cruelties in slaughterhouses..... I can't see how anyone can support buying animal "foods". Not a pleasant subject.....

Nice movie indeed. I loved the idea of his principles, and he really did made a point. Even if he died, I guess he didn't die with regrets. Truly one good story to tell.

The soundtrack was also as good as the movie, and the choice of singer (Eddie Veder) to sing most of the songs really made a difference.

I didn't know sean penn, the "Sean Penn" directed this movie. made it even better. Thank.

nice post.

Thats what happens when you go to a big box tire store. They don't care, the store is not managed by the owner, just some scrub thats waiting to hurry up and go home. Neither manager doesn't want to take the blame because he has to answer to the district guy. Do yourself a favor and go to an independent tire dealer who usually will admit thier mistakes and fix the problem, even if they didn't do it. Big box store managers are so dumb, they don't realize that this type of bad publicity not only loses one customer but loses all the people the that customer goes home and tells. the independent tire store realizes that if you just fix the problem even at a loss, you have made a customer for life and will reap the benefits for years to come.

The MEat industry is destined to collapse - Starting with genetically altered animals -grown in factory farms, pumped full of antibiotics and growth hormones - effulating into massive manure lagoons which seep into our water.... The methanes released adding to greenhouse gases, the fossil fuels wasted on transport & processing, the waste of water and other resources.... Combined further with the zoonotic diseases, other health issues like diabetes, heart disease & obesity..... Gosh, I'm so darn glad I'm Vegan!

I have to ask.. If it's all about food safety and animal cruelty, why did HSUS wait a total of over 5 months to release their video? If there was abuse on day 1 and presumably many of the days after, why stay 6 weeks? Does it really take 6 weeks worth of footage to make a 2:44 second video? That's only about 27 seconds per week.

The math alone is staggering. 500 head of cattle per day x 6 days a week x 6 weeks, that's 18,000 cattle that were put to death while this "activist" was on the job. Not to mention the 48,000 or so cows that were slaughtered during the 4 months that HSUS sat on their video.

Yes, what happened is unforgivable. Yes, the employees and the slaughterhouse should be punished. But I can't believe for one moment that HSUS was only concerned for the cattle or for public safety. If they were, they wouldn't have waited so long. The only things that benefit from waiting 4 months is HSUS's image and their agenda.
